Corridor PROPAGANDA: Wait a minute.. check the
source..
Billboards
Promoting Trans-Texas Corridors &...
Billboard on FM 1960 between Jones
and Perry Rds. in Houston & in urban & suburban regions across
Texas.
UPDATE: Information identifying the
sources & players BEHIND the Billboard PROPAGANDA Campaign have
been pulled from the website.
US
Rep. Mike McCaul's father-in-law is
San Antonio-based
Clear Channel
CHAIRMAN Lowry Mays whose BILLBOARD here carries the "message".
"A public service message
by the Outdoor Advertising Association of Texas"
SOUNDS GOOD.. is it for real?
Looking at the fine print below..
Texans for Safe
Reliable
Transportation is chaired by Joe Krier. The
billboard is clearly pro-Trans Texas Corridor and gives the
appearance that it is purely interested in transportation issues in
Texas. However, in order to understand the objectivity of the
billboard content, it might be wise to take a look at Joe Krier
whose organization has created and paid for these signs.
Joe Krier is:
- a board member and chairman of
TSRT,
- CEO and president of the Greater
San Antonio Chamber of Commerce,
- a member of the North American Free
Trade Alliance (NAFTA).
In February of this year, Mr. Krier was
- an appointee by Gov. Rick Perry to
the newly created Texas Transportation Financing Commission.
An examination of campaign finance
records also reveal that Mr. Krier’s wife and Republican Texas
senator, Cyndi Taylor Krier,
has given
$7,500 to Gov. Rick Perry since 2001. Mr. Krier is an advocate
for businesses in San Antonio. With San Antonio being the first
major city along the TTC coming out of Mexico and the last major
city along the TTC heading into Mexico, Mr. Krier looks to be a
person who’s interests and "certain constituents" will benefit
greatly from the creation of a new NAFTA superhighway through Texas.
Is it a stretch to imagine that Mr. Krier agrees with Gov. Perry’s
"vision" of a Texas with vast networks of toll roads stretching from
border to border?
What solutions does TSRT
propose?
TSRT, along with Governor PERRY,
some state leaders, & TxDOT bureaucrats are promoting a comprehensive
package of new short- and longer-term plans and transportation
"alternatives" including:
- The Texas Mobility Fund
& TX highway fund bond financing (Prop 15 in
2001)
- State and local toll
"partnerships"
- The Trans-Texas
Corridors (HB 3588 in 2003 & HB 2702 in 2005)
- Regional Mobility
Authorities
- Pass Through Financing
(HB
2702 in 2005)
- Rail relocations and
improvements (Prop 1 in 2005)
